ALMEIDA DA SILVA, 2021.

Vortex, portal or window 4. White glue and glitter, 35 x 100 cm.

Recently opened in the Rio neighborhood of Brás de Pina, Galeria 5 Bocas is currently showing the exhibition Rebu, curated by Ulisses Carrilho and Clarissa Diniz, which highlights the wonderful, intriguing and sumptuous Vórtices by Almeida da Silva, a young artist who graduated from EBA and Parque Lage. Rebu also performs twice until February 16th at the Cavalariças do Parque Lage. As if they were Portals – or even skins, perhaps detached thanks to some strange transformation that occurred with the artist –, the windows created by Almeida shine like galaxies. The surprising movement of these paintings/sculptures opens our senses to the artist's intriguing dreams, his work material (and our own, if we still have any left). The amalgam of color in Almeida's art appears as a cluster of atomic or subatomic particles, and makes us think about his sophisticated universe: quantum phenomena, architecture of the invisible, reconfiguration of space-time, lines of light, lines of fire, disappearance, impalpability… the artist’s words! My friend Marcelo Backes, a refined art collector, went with me to discover Almeida's work and the fearless and admirable project led by Allan Weber. We left the gallery, both with windows into our dreams.

By the way, the Viscount of Brás de Pina, a sugar cane and whaling businessman in Guanabara, was the one who gave the neighborhood its name in the 18th century. He was also the one who illuminated, with the supply of oil from his tusks, the city of Rio de Janeiro and Armação de Búzios – at least since the first half of the 1700s. It is in this traditional Rio neighborhood that Galeria 5 Bocas is located. Connect!
